Dalona Beckham, MBA,
RHIA, CCS
Dalona Beckham is
employed by the University of Texas M.D.
Anderson Cancer Center in Houston,
Texas. She received a Bachelors of
Science in Health Information Management
from Texas Southern University in
Houston in 1995 and a Masters of
Business Administration at Texas Woman’s
University in Houston in 2007. Her
credentials include Registered Health
Information Administrator (RHIA) and
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). Her
fourteen-year span of experience in
Health Information Management includes
working in coding and management
positions which encompass both inpatient
and outpatient settings. Dalona has also
spent time as a coding consultant where
she provided coding and data quality
reviews in hospitals and alternative
care facilities. This service included
traveling and home-based settings. In
her current role as Manager, Clinical
Data, Dalona analyzes documentation and
evaluates coding data quality as it
relates to compliance and reimbursement.
She also works with multidisciplinary
teams to plan and implement corrective
actions regarding reimbursement and
documentation issues. Dalona has been
instrumental in the development of new
diagnosis codes for the ICD-9-CM
including codes for non-Hodgkin’s
Lymphoma (2007), Neuroendocrine Tumors
(2008), and Antineoplastic Chemotherapy
Drug Induced Anemia (2009). She also
works as an adjunct instructor teaching
courses in coding and billing. Dalona is
a representative for M.D. Anderson at
the Alliance of Dedicated Cancer Centers
and is a member of AHIMA.
