Beatriz Martinez, MHIM, RHIA

Beatriz Martinez, MHIM, RHIA is a Health Information Technology faculty member and alumna of South Texas College, where she teaches medical coding, health insurance, reimbursement, health data management, and regulatory compliance. She brings both academic and real-world expertise to the classroom, mentoring students in accurate and compliant medical coding while emphasizing ethical health information practices and industry standards. She also serves as an Adjunct Instructor at Texas State Technical College.

Prior to entering academia, Beatriz worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Medical Records Technician and Coding Auditor, conducting coding audits, analyzing data for compliance and reimbursement accuracy, and providing guidance to coders and clinicians across multiple VA clinics. Her professional background includes several years of hands-on coding experience, as well as release of information operations.
Beatriz holds a Master of Health Information Management from Texas State University and is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). She is a proud Board Member of the Rio Grande Valley Health Information Management Association (RGVHIMA) and a vocal advocate for lifelong learning. She resides in the RGV with her husband and their dogs.
